The Fashion Stakes was an American Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-old fillies. Raced on dirt over a distance of five furlongs, it was run annually from 1889 through 2005. Inaugurated at Morris Park Racecourse in Westchester County, New York,〔(Baltimore Sun - October 9, 1889 )〕 when that facility closed in 1904 the race was moved to Aqueduct Racetrack and in its final years, at Belmont Park.〔(Associated Press Archive - June 9, 2005 )〕 The Fashion Stakes was often used as either the first or second start in a young filly's racing career. Such was the case in 1946 when First Flight not only won in her first career start but her winning time also equaled the Belmont Park track record.〔(New York Times - May 8, 1946 )〕 The race attracted some of the best bred fillies on the East Coast of the United States with several future Champions winning the race including Hall of Fame inductees Affectionately〔(New York Times - May 17, 1962 )〕 and Ruffian.〔(Chicago Tribune - Jun 13, 1974 )〕 There was no race run from 1984 through 1998. ==Speed records== On October 22, 1971, Ogden Phipps' Numbered Account set a Fashion Stakes record of 0:57 2/5 for five furlongs on dirt at Aqueduct Racetrack.〔(The Hartford Courant (Connecticut) - May 20, 1971 )〕 On June 12, 1974, Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Janney's Ruffian set a Fashion Stakes record that also equaled the Belmont Park track record of 1:03 flat for the then race distance of five and a half furlongs on dirt.〔(New York Times - Jun 13, 1974 )〕 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Fashion Stakes」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
